THE SEASON OF GIVING ALL YEAR LONG
| December 14, 2013My heart sings when I contribute to a cause and make a difference to the quality of life. I know yours does as well. Sometimes I give my time, sometimes donations, sometimes I can encourage you to give to the causes that align with your values for a better world.
When I was asked as a little boy what I wanted to be when I grew up, I often responded, “I want to be a philanthropist.” Being generous with others who can benefit from the many ways we all give back is central to my life.
The Pachamama Alliance has been the main focus of my charitable donations for the last 10 years. The issues of protecting the rain forest for the indigenous people who live in and around the Amazon basin is a metaphor for all of us to reflect on how we treat the earth with awareness and a sense of interconnection with all life , or how unconscious we all can be feeling separate and disconnected. Pachamama has taught me that the kind of consciousness that can pollute the earth is no different that when we marginalize people because of their color, gender, religion or sexual preference.
Bill and Lynne Twist are the founders of Pachamama. They continue to inspire me about sufficiency, living my life in a way that sustains life for our future generations , and how my behaviors are so interrelated to health and healing in ways I never imagined.
As an act of healing, I know that philanthropy benefits both the receiver and giver. Giving is not only for people who have a lot of money. I recognize that one can give time, volunteering from home or going out and giving a hand, or donating money even if it is the smallest amount. I have learned from Lynne, “what you appreciate, appreciates.”
I am letting you know that a portion of the all profits from my book sales, individual and group workshops, and supplements sales go directly to www.pachamama.org.
Pachamama means the earth, the sun, and the whole universe. Pachamama educates people about environmental sustainability, social justice, and spiritual awareness.
Last week The Pachamama Alliance’s work in the Amazon reached a major turning point – in the form of a disturbing government crackdown. This is proof of just how effective our work has been and the stakes have never been higher.
Fundación Pachamama in Ecaudor, for more than 16 years has successfully focused on protecting the rights of nature and indigenous peoples. Their critical on-the-ground work with indigenous allies has resulted in the preservation of millions of acres and the territories of several indigenous nations including tribes still untouched by the modern world.
If you would like to join me in giving to the Pachamama Alliance, please click here.
In this season of giving, and throughout the year, please find a way to give to any organization or person who would benefit from your generosity and willingness to contribute.
With love and respect.
