Opening Up Your Right brain
| October 30, 2013Scientists tell us we all use a small fraction of our brain’s capability. No matter how smart you are, this is true. Simply put, our left brain allowsus to think logically and rationally. We can be grateful for this brain faculty that allows us to speak and understand one another and to read these words and learn new concepts. Without left brain functions reason and logical learning would be critically impaired. Yet there is no correlation between a well developed left brain and healing. Our right brain is all about connection and relationships and visualizing and creativity. It is an essential part of healing. There is correlation with right brain activity and healing.

Visualizing or imagining a desirable future helps to promote wellness by creating feelings of excitement, fun, and positive expectancy. We also open up parts of our brain that brings forth and initiates healing. We lay new neurons, i.e. brain cells when we imagine. Visualizing and creative imagining can play a vital role in your healing. It also sensitizes us to anything we come across in real life that reminds us of our vision, so we start to pick up on distinctions we might otherwise miss. There is even considerable evidence to suggest that visualization influences what happens and occurs in our life. Using your imagination is a constructive habit that adds a powerful dimension to the wellness experience.
Setting clear measurable goals that are grounded in context, purpose and vision can be very helpful to focus our mind on productive activities and enhance self-esteem and personal growth. Success is a frequent by-product of a well mind, since the energy used to deal with mental and emotional issues can be reclaimed and reinvested in more fulfilling outcomes and achievements.
Meditation with:
- breath,
- creative art,
- mind mapping,
- music,
- following some established meditative practice,
- contemplative prayer,
can support you to transition from your left to your right brain. These are useful good health habits for wellness and healing.
Connecting with:
- the energy within your being that you call spiritual, or
- experiencing some inner place of calm and peace, or
- your inner source of vitality and aliveness,
will have profound effects on many aspects of your life.
Giving thanks and appreciation or establishing a Gratitude Practice (seewww.gratefulness.org) for your many blessings, have also proven to consistently enhance wellness and health.
