POSITIVE EFFECTS OF MEDITATION
| December 17, 2013Here is a brilliant 8 minute clip on how meditation effects our brain.
There are many forms of mediation. While the results may vary depending on the style and depth of practice, there are many common denominators that can be measured.
A few of the many positive benefits of meditating:
1. we digest our food more efficiently
2. we accommodate to demands more effectively
3. we breathe more deeply to oxygenate our tissues that results in more energy
4. sleep is more restful
5. we have more capacity to respond rather than just automatic reflex/reaction
6. tissue and wound healing is faster
7. we process negative feelings more quickly
8. our pulse and blood pressure is closer to ideal
9. we have more generalized awareness which results in better concentration, creativity and memory
10. many inflammatory processes that can only exist in an acid environment ameliorate because meditation shifts the body to a more alkaline state
Meditation can be more than sitting on a cushion contemplating a sound or your breath. There are meditations that include music, dance, gardening, yoga, or any intentional movements that include focus of our attention with awareness.
Meditations and visualizations have been part of the the health and healing practices offered in the LOVE YOUR BODY workshop.
During this season of LIGHT while we celebrate the birth of one of this world’s most openhearted healers, we are all challenged to deepen our connection to the sweet silence we experience when we still our mind. Pulling ourselves out of the vortex of our fast paced lives, we all yearn in different ways for the quietude that even the briefest meditation can offer.
Blessings to you during this season of celebration and renewal.
