{"id":199,"date":"2013-10-30T18:37:59","date_gmt":"2013-10-30T18:37:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsite.drbarrytaylor.com\/?p=199"},"modified":"2013-11-01T22:46:34","modified_gmt":"2013-11-01T22:46:34","slug":"eat-less-sugar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drbarrytaylor.com\/blog\/eat-less-sugar\/","title":{"rendered":"Cut Back On Sugar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent shocking study done by the USDA, it was reported that the\u00a0<strong>average American consumes 134 pounds of refined sugar every year, or approximately 20 teaspoons of sugar per day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As hard as this may be to believe, consider the following facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A 12 oz. can of Pepsi\u2122 contains 10 teaspoons of sugar<\/li>\n<li>A 2 oz. package of candy contains 11 teaspoons of sugar<\/li>\n<li>A 16 oz. cup of lemonade contains 13 teaspoons of sugar<\/li>\n<li>A cup of Frosted Flakes\u2122 contains 4 teaspoons of sugar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This high level of sugar intake contributes to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>headaches,<\/li>\n<li>decreased capacity to handle stress well,<\/li>\n<li>obesity,<\/li>\n<li>Type II diabetes,<\/li>\n<li>heart disease due to elevated triglycerides,<\/li>\n<li>kidney stones,<\/li>\n<li>dental caries,<\/li>\n<li>chronic tiredness and reactive hypoglycemia,<\/li>\n<li>loss of important nutrients like chromium because of the need to make more insulin, B Vitamins, and Calcium,<\/li>\n<li>decreased immune resistance to infections,<\/li>\n<li>poor concentration and poor learning habits; decreased memory,<\/li>\n<li>poor sleep,<\/li>\n<li>depression, anxiety, and nervousness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Decreasing your sugar intake is as simple as avoiding foods which are high in refined sugars, such as soft drinks, candy, cake and donuts, as well as most condiments.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When you purchase sweetened food, look for products that are sweetened with apple juice or stevia<\/strong>, rather than refined sugar high-fructose corn syrup.
